Mowing

Mower blade should be kept between 2 1/2" to 3" in height and sharpened every cut.

Watering

Water during morning hours (7am to noon) every other day. Because of the water needed for St. Augustine, fungus can be a problem, so.... DO NOT WATER AT NIGHT! - This does not allow blades and stems to dry in the proper time and the disease can grow rapidly.

Pests

Although mole cricket damage is slight, Sod Webworm and Chinch bugs should be kept in check with liquid and granular applications of insecticides during warm months. If a serious problem is observed, use liquid for a quick effective kill.

If a weed problem develops, Ortho Weed And Feed for St. Augustine contains the chemical "Atrazine", which is highly recommended by most agriculturists.

Disease

If fungus appears, spots on blades, patches turning brown, root rot or a slime covering, use liquid fungicide such as Daconil 2787 or Four to keep fungus under control. This problem is most seen in the hot humid summer months.
